Bymarka Ski Camping

It was a stunning weekend in Bymarka, often looking down on Trondheim and the fjord coated in mist. Where we camped, near Bosbergheia, there was barely a breath of wind and stunning views.

A nice long afternoon ski (~35km) in the southern end of Bymarka, in lovely conditions on a mix of prepared tracks and fresh snow trails.

A great start to our ski-camping season. We stayed close to home, and had lots of deep snow on the ground and steep forested terrain to navigate through, with snow hanging prettily on the branches and some lovely views.

With Corona keeping us from travelling back to Scotland for Christmas, we had the opportunity to take a week of skiing in Rondane with some friends. Great skiing, and a lovely old cabin to stay in, complete with brand new sauna to enjoy!

Ice Skating in Bymarka

I borrowed some long-distance ice skates and enjoyed a lovely day skating over Stor-Leirsjøen, Litl-Leirsjøen and many laps around Skjellbreia. A very fun way to enjoy the cold while waiting for the snow to arrive.

Prestøyhytta Ski Weekend

A lovely weekend starting our ski season, and introducing a friend to backcountry skiing. We had Prestøyhytta to ourselves and had some fantastic snow conditions.

Quarantine Camping

CoVid-19 had hit, we'd been quarantined for two weeks, and were still under lockdown, and it was fantastic to be able to get out ski-camping just outside town and meet some friends around the campfire.

A week in the Faroes

On our way back from Christmas in Scotland to Norway, we made a week-long stop-over in the Faroe Islands. We stayed in a flat just outside Torshavn, and had a fantastic week hiking and sightseeing. Wild winds, stunning scenery and ferocious fireworks!​

Rock Hopping (Kayaking) at -10'C

Gudå - Meråker hike

Kayaking and camping along the windswept string of the Froan islands, reaching Finnværet and Halten lighthouses.

Open crossings and Jellyfish on Trondheimsfjord

I took my parents kayaking on Trondheimsfjord, from Trondheim to Tautra and back. The long open crossings took us through jellyfish-soup, and we enjoyed stunningly calm seas, even when we were over 5 km from the nearest land.

Sylan Ski - Easter 2019

A glorious week in Sylan and Skarvan og Roltdalen with my wife. Sometimes over 30'C warmer than my Easter in Sylan last year!

Blown away by Hardangervidda
21-31/03/19
10 days and 200 km with a pulk and skis, crossing Hardangervidda with a friend. A fantastic expedition into the wilderness, including a full week without seeing another person. We faced 55 mph winds and whiteouts, but also enjoyed amazing days with clear blue skies and little wind.

A weekend of ski-camping by Snøhetta. Skiing from Kongsvoll towards Snøhetta and back to Hjerkinn.

Alone in the White-out

Solo ski-camping trip to the north of Storlien, Sweden. Whiteout conditions on day two and poor visibility on day one made this an extra challenging trip. When the tips of my skis and my hands were the only things I could see, I was forced to rely fully on my GPS and compass.

Sb and I started our ski-camping season - and our physical preparation for Hardanger - with a cold but enjoyable weekend skiing to the east of Røros.

Kayaking in Helgeland

A week kayaking in stunning Norwegian scenery, with two "top-tur" (mountain hikes) on the imposing mountainous islands. The trip included several of the most spectacular camp spots I have ever been lucky enough to visit!
